About a week ago I wrote about doing a status match to Hyatt Diamond: Hyatt Diamond Match.

This was an article about Hyatt offing a status match to the chain’s top tier Diamond status for Starwood Platinum members. This status match program was in response to Marriott acquiring Starwood as a chance to gain additional loyal followers.

I personally think it was a great idea for the chain to offer the matches as there were a lot of people disappointed or nervous about the acquisition as there are vast differences between the two chains frequent guest programs.

I’ve enjoyed staying at Hyatt hotels over the years. If I traveled more I would have tried to maintain status at both chain’s; however, due to the fact that all my travel is personal, I selected Starwood as my brand of choice.

I was excited about the possibility of a match so I reached out to the chain to request the status. I was instantly responded to and was asked to send in documentation. I sent in the required documentation about a couple weeks later I received an email from Hyatt welcoming me to Diamond Status.

It was a nice touch that Hyatt used Paris and the Eiffel Tower for the image on the email. Paris is a wonderful city and it is nice to see the reminder about how great travel there can be.

Hyatt Diamond Status requires 25 stays per-year in order to qualify.

For staying that many times, you get upgraded rooms at check in, late check out, a welcome amenity, free breakfast in the club lounge or in the restaurant for those properties that do not offer a club lounge. In addition, the chain offers four suite upgrade certificates for upgrades in advance.

The status is valid through February 2017.

My plan is to do two more Starwood stays this year to re-qualify for Platinum and then focus next year on Hyatt. By doing the two additional stays, it will allow for a great travel experience at either chain over the next year.

This year, I stayed at three or four Hyatt properties. Most of the experiences were great so I am looking forward to even better ones next year as I have Diamond Status.

Did you request a status match to Hyatt Diamond? What has your experience been so far?

Congrats on Diamond Status! I had a temporary Diamond match with Hyatt in the past, but I don’t pay for rooms often enough, so I couldn’t keep it.

I did a status match with Kimpton to their Inner Circle program due to my Hilton Diamond status (earned by spending $40k on their Amex). It’s a great way to get excellent benefits without waiting to accumulate stays or nights.

It will be nice to get to experience a stay there as a Diamond. What did you like best when you had the status?
