Upgrade

My seat on Delta Santo Domingo to New York was upgraded to business class a day before the flight. I was selected a window seat at 2D. When I arrived on the plane, however, another passenger was seated at the window, so I used his seat at 2C.

Check In

I arrived about an hour and 15 minutes before the flight. The check in area was empty as most passengers had already checked in for the flight. The agent assisted me promptly and she provided boarding passes and provided the gate number and wished me a good flight.

I proceeded to the security line, and joined the line. The security process lasted about 20 minutes.

Once I exited security, I joined the immigration line and after about five minutes, I reached the front of the line. The agent greeted me and processed my departure and wished me a good day.

Gate Area and Boarding

I arrived at the gate area well into the boarding process. I joined a line of about 10 other passengers.

The gate area provided a view of the aircraft with the sunrising in the background.

When I reached the front of the line, the gate agent scanned my boarding pass and reviewed my passport before wishing me a good flight.

I joined another line of about 30 passengers waiting in the jetway.

After about 10 minutes, I reached the door and the flight attendants greeted me.

I located my seat and relaxed prior to the departure.

A flight attendant offered juice or sparkling wine as the pre-departure beverage. I requested the sparkling wine. The flight attendant provided it.

The sparkling wine was refreshing and it had a light flavor.

The flight attendants prepared the cabin for take off a minute or two later.

The safety video was displayed on the screens and before you knew it we were departing from the gate.

There was a short taxi before the plan was up in the air.

Seat

The aircraft was a 737-900 and had a new feeling.

My seat was a standard first class seat.

There was a large monitor at the seat that offered a large selection of entertainment.

A power port was located in between the seats in front of me. There was also USB power at the seat.

In Flight Experience

After the  Delta Santo Domingo to New York aircraft reached a cruising altitude, the flight attendants prepared the cabin for service.

A flight attendant greeted me and asked if I wanted breakfast. She offered a choice between Corn Flakes or Eggs. I requested eggs and she also offered a beverage. I requested orange juice and water. The flight attendant thanked me.

A minute or two later, the flight attendant returned and offered a hot towel.

The towel was hot and it had a pleasant scent.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant picked up the towel, and provided a placemat before serving the juice.

The orange juice was chilled and it had a sweet taste but reminded me more of an orange drink rather than regular orange juice.

Meal Service

The flight attendant served the meal a few minutes later.

The meal consisted with eggs with salsa, beans and a cheesy potato crisp. A small fruit salad was served on the side.

About five minutes later, the flight attendant offered a choice between a muffin or croissant. I selected the croissant.

The eggs were served hot. The eggs were fresh tasting and they were seasoned lightly. The beans were fresh and the cheesy crispy potato was fresh and it had an excellent taste. The salsa was mild and it had a tangy flavor. The fruit was fresh and it consisted of mango, pineapple, papaya and grapes. The fruit was sweet and it had an excellent taste and flavor. The croissant was a bit hard but it had a good flavor. Butter and jam were provided on the side.

After I finished the meal, the flight attendant offered another beverage before clearing the tray. I declined at that time and she thanked me and removed the tray and placemat.

I watched a movie on the seat-back entertainment system. The sound and video quality was excellent..

The movie was the Shack and it was an excellent movie fitting of a Mission Trip as it has a Christian story.

The flight attendants checked in with the passengers several times during the flight.

About one hour before landing, the flight attendants presented a snack basket. The snack basket had cookies, bananas, Kind Bars, Biscoff Cookies, and other packaged snack options. I selected cookies and a Kind Bar.

The cookies were in a package with several small salted caramel chocolate rectangle cookies. The cookies were excellent and they had a good salted caramel taste. The Kind Bar was also fresh and it had an excellent taste.

Landing

About 25 minutes before landing, the cabin on Delta Santo Domingo to New York was prepared for landing.

With typical JFK landings, the aircraft arrived from the east over the ocean and then arriving in Queens before landing.

The plane landed on time and there was a short taxi to a gate in terminal 4.

Immigration and Customs

The flight arrived in the secure area and I walked to the immigration area where I utilized Global Entry for quick entry into the US.

The bags were delivered after 10 minutes to the baggage claim in the customs area.

I claimed my luggage and joined the line to depart customs.

The process lasted under 15 minutes from the time I exited the aircraft to exiting customs.

Transfer to LaGuardia

My Delta Santo Domingo to New York flight connection had an airport change to LaGuardia. I am not a fan of these because you have to go out of your way to connect to the other airport.

Many times these connections happen due to lower fares. So oftentimes you just deal with it even though it is a bit annoying.

Overall

The flight went by quickly. The meal service was good and the experience was good overall. The flight attendants were polite and they were attentive throughout the flight. The entertainment system functioned well and I enjoyed the movie.
