Booking
I booked this run about a month in advance and used my remaining global upgrades and was waitlisted for the flights, all which cleared a few hours in advance. I was lucky and able to secure a seat on the upper deck 77K to be specific.
Boarding
Boarding began about 45 min prior to arrival. I boarded and ascended the stairs to the upper deck and made my way to my seat. On my seat was the blanket and two pillows from the Westin collection, as well as a Tumi amenity kit, headphones, a water, and a bag of pecans. I settled in and put my stuff away, one of the great things about these seats is there is a little ledge running between the seat and the window which makes for great storage.
Controls for the seat and removable remote for the entertainment system are easy to find and use, right on the left. And to your right is a pop out reading lamp (in addition to the standard overhead one) and directly next to it is a power outlet along with a USB outlet.
Menus
The menus were distributed, along with preflight drinks and hot towels. I took a moment to make my dinner choices.
Dinner
I opted for the western selection and the chicken breast with a bottle of sake. The starter, roasted vegetables, was weird, and the salad was disappointing, but the soup made up for it all by being truly amazing.
The chicken was quite good, a tad dry, but quite tasty, as was the sake!
For desert I opted for a ice cream sundae with chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
In Flight Experience
After that I settled in with some coffee and began binge watching Designated Survivor.
Few hours later I had a second cup and laid back while checking our map, almost 5 hours down I was sure enjoying the comfort of the Westin bedding.
Mid Flight Snack
For the midflight snack I opted for the cold soba noodles, which were quite nice, and the miso soup really hit the spot.
Eventually moved on to watching The Crown and another bottle of sake.
The noodle dish prior to landing was great, though the noodles themselves were slightly dry. The dishes were collected as we began our final decent towards Narita.
Overall
Overall this was a great flight, the upper deck really makes you feel like your in a private flight. Theres only a handful of passengers and two flight attendants so your always being taken care of. Theres never a line for the restroom and never any commotion in the aisles.
I feel like this trip has further spoiled me, since I’ve done this trip a few times in the past in coach, and now with a bed….I don’t know how ill go back.
