Cathay Pacific The Pier Lounge
This post is a review of Cathay Pacific the Pier Lounge at Hong Kong.
The lounge is considered one of the world’s best airport lounges and it offers day rooms where you can lay down and sleep in between your flights. In addition, the Pier offers a sit down dinner room and private shower suites.
Lounge Access
I accessed the lounge thanks to my American Airlines Executive Platinum Status which grants first class lounge access at One World Airline Lounges when traveling on an international reservation.
You can also access the lounge if you travel in First Class on a One World Airline. A Business Class Lounge was also available next door which was a separate facility.
If you are not able to access the lounge, there are many other lounges at Hong Kong that you can access with a Priority Pass Membership.

Location
The Cathay Pacific the Pier Lounge is located near gate 65 at Hong Kong Airport. The lounge is located at ground level and you access it via a staircase or elevator.
Reception
When I arrived near the entrance, an agent greeted me warmly and welcomed me to the Pier. The agent reviewed my boarding pass and American Airlines Executive Platinum card before inviting me to enter the lounge. The agent wished me a pleasant stay in the lounge.
Lounge Setup
The lounge has a private and exclusive feel. It occupies a large area at the airport but from each unique section you felt very private.
The lounge has one main hallway which connects to various rooms on each side.
The main hallway is decorated with a blend between soft wood and modern lighting fixtures which also set an upscale theme.
In the middle of the hallway the restroom facilities were available along with the reception desk for the spa and day suite area.
On one end the lounge offered a luxury bar with an extensive spirit and wine list.
Surrounding the bar, you found various tables and chairs with large windows to view the gate area and tarmac.
A self-service food area was located in a room next to the bar. The room featured light bites, beer, wine, soda, juice and various Asian food options in small jars that were neatly presented in the refrigerator.
The snack offers were light bites as the main meal option was located at the other end of the lounge in a sit down dining room.
Lounge Experience
The Cathay Pacific the Pier Lounge offers day beds and mini spa treatments to all guests of the lounge.
When I arrived, I approached the reception desk and inquired if spa treatments were available. The attendant said that they were but it was first come, first serve and that the next available appointment was in two hours. The attendant proactively suggested I relax in one of the day bed rooms. I accepted and she escorted me to one of the private day beds.
The day bed room featured a large couch where you could take a nap while you looked out at the tarmac.
The day bed room was decorated in soft tones and it had a modern light fixture. The room was clean and the couch was comfortable.
At the time of my visit, construction was occurring just outside the window with a jack hammer being utilized the break up the pavement. The sound could be heard through the window, which made it difficult to relax.
After relaxing for about 30 minutes, I made my way to the restaurant.
Before I had to depart the lounge to board my flight, I requested to use one of the shower facilities.
An attendant escorted me to a shower room and she asked me to enjoy the shower.
The shower room had a rain shower head, vanity with various amenities as well as a toilet. The shower room was clean.
The linens were oversized, soft and fluffy and that had a luxurious feel. The amenities had a pleasant scent. Face wash, toner, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash were available. In addition, small containers with a dental kit, cotton swabs, shower cap and other necessities were available near the vanity.
The water pressure was excellent and the experience was relaxing.
Restaurant
When I approached the restaurant, a server greeted me and welcomed me. The server escorted me to a table and assisted with seating.
Once I was seated a menu was provided and the server asked what I would like to drink. I ordered champagne and the server offered a choice between three options including two regular and one rose. I requested the yellow label one and she thanked me.
The champagne was served within a minute or two and the server asked for my order. I inquired about her favorite items from the menu and she offered several suggestions.
I ordered Asian Noodle Salad and a Thai Peanut Curry noodles for the entrée.
The Asian Noodle Salad was served within a few minutes. It was presented attractively in a decorative bowl. The server provided chopsticks at the time and she asked me to enjoy.
The salad was served chilled and it consisted of fresh noodles with kimchi, onions in a tangy dressing. The noodles had an excellent taste and flavor and it was an excellent starter dish. The portion size was medium.
After I finished the salad, the server offered to clear the dish and she also provided an additional champagne at that time.
The entrée was served a few minutes later. The entrée consisted of a thin Thai noodle in a rich and flavorful curry sauce. The noodles were served hot and they had a great taste. The sauce was a tangy peanut butter curry sauce which was slightly spice and bold in flavor. The portion size was generous. It was served in a decorative bowl.
The server checked in with me one time while I was enjoying the entrée.
When I was ready to depart, the server thanked me sincerely and she wished me a good flight.
Departure
When it was nearing the boarding time for my flight, I departed the lounge. Three team members acknowledged my departure and I was wished a pleasant flight.
Overall
I was totally impressed with the Cathay Pacific the Pier Lounge. I previously read such great things about the lounge but my expectations were far exceeded on this visit. The team members were welcoming and they were proactive in offering service. Although I was unable to use the spa, I got to relax in a day-bed room with a view of the tarmac. The highlight of the experience was the restaurant quality meal experience in the dining.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Cathay Pacific the Pier Lounge when you transit through Hong Kong airport.

I’ve only been to the Business Class side of the lounge, but even that’s pretty fabulous. The noodle bar alone makes it worth a visit.
Yes the noodles are so good. Did you have the Dan Dan noodles?
