Foodie

I love how amazing the food is on cruises. From exceptional local dishes in the ports that you visit to classic French, Italian, Asian, Mediterranean and more cruise ships have amazing culinary teams that bring forth excellent meals each evening.

Theme Cruises

Many cruises lines offer theme cruises. Sometimes they are organized by third parties who charter the ship and set the stage for the theme. Others are done directly by the cruise lines to offer special experiences unique to the theme and the sailing.

Norwegian Cruise Line often partners with a third party to run the theme events such as the Sixthman events for music festivals and sports events.

Princess generally offers themed cruises related to food and other activities.

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity offer a Presidents Cruise each year that features special events and unique port experiences with tours specific to the President’s Cruise.

Princess Cruises Pacific Coast Wine and Foodie Cruises

This week, Princess Cruises announced two special food and wine cruises from the west coast on two awesome ships.

The first one is on Discovery Princess October 1-7, 2023 on the repositioning cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles.

Princess announced that Discovery Princess will sail from Vancouver to Los Angeles with stops in Victoria, B.C. and an overnight in San Francisco, highlighted by a special excursion to Caymus Suisun Winery in American Canyon with sailings starting as low as $319 per person.

Caymus Wines are popular throughout the world and the sailing is sure to be a special one.

The second special Princess West Coast Food and Wine Festival is on Sapphire Princess at the begining of October. The cruise will feature the Jackson Family of Wines.

The cruise will sail from Vancouver to Los Angeles, with day-long stops at four popular coastal destinations, including Victoria, Astoria, San Francisco and San Diego. This sailing offers the tours of the winery as an excursion at the San Francisco port. Wine lovers will love this experience.

Reposition Sailings

Both of these experiences are taking place on reposition cruises. Reposition cruises are where cruise ships move from one home port to a different one. This normal happens before and after the Alaska season on the west coast but they are available throughout the world.

Reposition cruises are lower in cost. These cruises offer many special experiences you wouldn’t otherwise get to do on a regular cruise. I had the pleasure of sailing on a couple such sailings and got to visit some unique ports.

Furthmore, the most common reposition cruises are transatlantic ones or transpacific cruises when ships move between continents. Those are often two-weeks long and have a combination of a week at sea and then a week visiting ports. They can be a lot of fun if you have the time.

Princess Special Cruises

It is awesome that there are Princess Foodie Theme Cruises available this year. I hope to get to sail on one of them in the future. While these two do not work for my schedule, perhaps I can go on one in the future.

Have you been on one of the Princess Foodie Theme Cruises or another theme cruise?

You can read more about these theme cruises in the press release from Princess.
