This article is the Norwegian Luna’s delivery and its upcoming debut in the United States. It is about the newest Prima Plus Class vessel joining the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet and its transition from the shipyard to its homeport in Miami.
The maritime industry reached a significant milestone on March 5, 2026. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) officially took delivery of the Norwegian Luna at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard. This ship is the second in the Prima Plus Class. It follows the Norwegian Aqua. I have been tracking the construction of this vessel since it was first announced. The delivery marked the formal transfer of ownership from the shipbuilder to the cruise line. Norwegian Luna welcomed its first guests in Rome on March 11, 2026. It is scheduled to debut in Miami on March 23, 2026.
The Technical Profile of Norwegian Luna
The Norwegian Luna is a large addition to the NCL fleet. It is 156,300 gross tons. It has a guest capacity of 3,550. There are 1,809 staterooms on board. These rooms range from solo studios to the suites in The Haven by Norwegian.
The "Prima Plus" designation is important. It signifies a 10 percent increase in size and capacity compared to the original Prima Class ships, such as the Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. This extra space allows for more expansive public areas and additional amenities. For those following cruise industry news, the scaling up of this class shows NCL's commitment to maximizing guest space-to-ratio metrics.
I previously sailed on the sister ship Prima and had a good experience overall. You can read about that here.
Arrival in Miami and Christening
The ship is scheduled to debut in Miami on March 23, 2026. I will be monitoring tracking data as she approaches Florida.
Following its arrival, the official christening ceremony is set for March 27, 2026. This event will feature traditional maritime blessings and high-profile performances. NCL also plans new entertainment, including an Elton John show and HIKO. Once the bottle of champagne is broken against the hull, the Norwegian Luna will begin its inaugural season. This season includes a mix of short and week-long itineraries. You can find more about these types of voyages in our cruises category.

Onboard Innovations: The Aqua Slidecoaster and Beyond
The Norwegian Luna introduces several headline features. These include the Aqua Slidecoaster, Luna Midway, Moon Climber, and Horizon Park. The hull art is a celestial design by the artist ELLE.
Horizon Park and Public Spaces
If you prefer a slower pace, Horizon Park is a new addition to the Prima Plus Class. It is a complimentary recreational area. It features lawn-style games and plenty of space for lounging. I find this to be a necessary balance to the high-energy attractions like the Slidecoaster.
The ship also features the Great Life Lagoon pool complex. This area is designed to be the heart of the outdoor experience. It offers multiple pools and tiered lounging. For those looking for an upgraded experience, the Vibe Beach Club returns on the Norwegian Luna. This is an adults-only sanctuary that requires a pass for entry. It provides a more exclusive environment away from the main pool deck crowds.

Dining and Culinary Offerings
NCL is known for its "Freestyle Dining" concept. The Norwegian Luna continues this tradition. The ship features a wide array of complimentary and specialty dining venues. Two names I’m watching closely from the press release are:
- Indulge Food Hall
- Sukhothai
One of the highlights is the Indulge Food Hall. This is an upscale food hall setup with multiple stations and quick ordering. It is built for variety without turning dinner into a scheduling project.
Sukhothai is another dining option called out in the release. It adds another distinct cuisine choice onboard, which is always helpful on a 7-night run when you want to break up the routine.
New to the Norwegian Luna are several refined dining concepts. These include specialized Italian and French venues that have been redesigned for the Prima Plus Class. The focus is on smaller, more intimate dining rooms rather than large banquet-style halls. If you are interested in how this compares to other lines, check out our reviews section.
Accommodations and The Haven

The 1,809 staterooms on Norwegian Luna are designed with a modern, neutral palette. The ship offers a high number of balcony cabins. However, the crown jewel of the ship is The Haven by Norwegian. This "ship-within-a-ship" concept is located at the top of the vessel.
The Haven on Norwegian Luna features its own private restaurant, lounge, and courtyard. It also has a dedicated concierge and 24-hour butler service. For the Norwegian Luna, NCL has expanded the Haven sundeck. It now offers more unobstructed views of the horizon. This is a primary selling point for travelers who want the amenities of a large ship with the privacy of a boutique hotel.
For a quieter reset button, Mandara Spa is also part of the onboard mix. This is where I’d go when the Slidecoaster energy level is not the vibe.

Itineraries: Caribbean and Beyond
Following its debut in Miami, the Norwegian Luna will sail a variety of Caribbean routes.
- April – November 2026: Seven-day Eastern Caribbean voyages. Ports include Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands), and Tortola (British Virgin Islands).
- November 2026 – April 2027: Transition to Western Caribbean itineraries. Ports include Roatán (Honduras), Cozumel (Mexico), and NCL’s private destination, Harvest Caye (Belize).
- April 2027: The ship will relocate to New York City. It will offer Bermuda voyages from NYC starting April 2027. These trips include overnight stays at the Royal Naval Dockyard.
I have found that the Bermuda itineraries from New York are particularly popular. The overnight stays allow for a much deeper exploration of the island compared to standard day-calls.
Industry Context and Fleet Growth
The delivery of the Norwegian Luna is a piece of a larger expansion strategy for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. The company is in the midst of a significant fleet renewal. The Prima Plus Class is the centerpiece of this growth. These ships are designed to be more fuel-efficient and to offer a higher guest-to-crew ratio than older vessels in the fleet.
For travelers, this means more modern hardware and more choices in the Caribbean market. Miami is the cruise capital of the world, and the arrival of the Luna reinforces NCL’s position in this competitive landscape. You can see how this fits into the broader travel world by browsing our sitemap.

Final Thoughts on the Norwegian Luna
The Norwegian Luna is a massive, high-tech vessel that caters to a wide demographic. Whether you are looking for the adrenaline of the Aqua Slidecoaster or the quiet luxury of The Haven, this ship has a dedicated space for it. Its arrival in Miami on March 23rd marks the beginning of a new chapter for NCL fans.
I will be following the ship’s progress as it begins its first revenue cruises. Stay tuned for more trip reports as we get closer to the summer sailing season.
