American Airlines Free Snacks –
American Airlines announced that they will be adding snacks on economy flights as well as meals on flights between Dallas Fort Worth and Hawaii.
In the past all the Airlines offered meals and snacks in economy on all flights; however, about five or so years ago, the airlines removed these food offerings from economy. Delta continued offering snacks while United and American only offered beverage service.
American will be adding the snacks on the transcon flights in February followed by a rollout to all the economy flights in April.
The snack offering is consistent with what Delta offers; however, there are only two choices not three: Pretzels or Biscoff cookies. Delta also offers peanuts as a third option.
While not much, a light snack is nice to have during the flight. In the case of the Biscoff cookies, they go well with coffee.
Another addition will be the return of meals in the economy cabin on the flights from Dallas Fort Worth to Hawaii. The fact that these flights have been without meal service is amazing considering the length of the flight. Some of the flights to Hawaii are longer then those to Europe which always has meals served. A 10-hour flight to Hawaii is a long time to go without a meal. The airline instead has been serving meals for purchase on these flights; however, they typically sell out quickly. So the return of these meals will be a nice addition.
American says that the meals will return in May.
American announced the return of meals and snacks via email. That message also discussed additional entertainment offerings in the economy cabin including some Live TV options on flights equipped with WiFi.
American’s new aircraft have high quality AVOD monitors at all the seats; however, most of the content has not been complimentary. So these additional options are great to help pass the time on the flight.
