Beijing Trip Report – Introduction

Beijing Trip Report Introduction

Recently I went on a trip to Beijing over the weekend on American Airlines.

I booked the trip a few months ago when the airfare went on sale for around $650.

China is one of those places where a visa is required for entry unless you are connecting to a third country. About a year ago, I obtained a visa from Allied Passport. They are an excellent agency and provided efficient service in less than one week. They are offering a savings of $5 off their service fee for readers of the John the Wanderer Blog by applying via the following link: Allied Passport

I booked it around this time because I had one or two SWU upgrade certificates that were expiring on February 29, so I booked the trip with the hope of using them so I do not lose them prior to the expiration date.

About a month before the trip, the return part of the trip got upgraded. The outbound remained as requested. I am flying via DFW so the aircraft is the 787 which has much better AVOD, power and other amenities. Shortly before boarding time of the DFW to PEK flight, my upgrade cleared.

This will be my second trip to Beijing. My first was last year when I took part in the Business Class mistake fare from Washington DC to Beijing via Chicago for $450.

On that trip I did a lot of exploring including some of the parks and I visited the square.

In addition, I took a train ride to see the Great Wall.

I also had a Peking Duck dinner at one of the famous restaurants.

All in, it was a good trip so I am excited to get to visit again.

This time the weather will be much cooler but I hope to get to spend a little time checking out some of the other sites such as the stadiums that were built for the Olympics a few years ago as well as try some of the other Chinese foods.

The trip report will include the following posts:
