Upgrade

I received an upgrade to the first-class cabin about five days prior to the departure date.

Midweek redeye flights are not very popular as most conventions are Monday to Friday, so traveling on a Wednesday is relatively easy to be upgraded.

Check In

I arrived at the airport a few hours before my flight.

The check in area was mostly empty and there was no waiting to talk with an agent for assistance.

I checked in online so I skipped the agent.

Las Vegas features CLEAR which allows you to bypass the TSA Identification check which makes checking in and utilizing Pre-Check very easy.

CLEAR works because you register in advance and they take your fingerprints as well as an retina scan so that they can identify you. AN agent also verifies your identity and takes a picture of you for the system.

When you travel, you walk up to the kiosk, place two fingers on a scanner pad and then scan your boarding pass.

A staff member notifies the TSA Agent that you were cleared for Pre-Check and the agent allows you to enter the X-ray machine area.

Gate Area

After visiting both Priority Pass lounges and the American Express Centurion Lounge, I made my way to the gate for my Delta Airlines Redeye Vegas Minneapolis winter flight.

I arrived about 10 minutes before boarding was scheduled to begin.

The boarding area was light with activity and I noted on the flight information screen that there were over 100 unassigned seats on the flight.

Not surprisingly though, the First-Class Cabin was listed as full.

The gate agents made a few announcements about the flight and notified guests when boarding would begin.

Boarding

Boarding began about 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

I joined the line after the Premium cabin was invited to board.

When I reached the front of the line, a gate agent asked me to scan my boarding pass. When I did, she thanked me using my name and wished me a pleasant flight.

I made my way on the plane and two of the flight attendants provided a positive greeting at the door to the aircraft.

Boarding was efficient and it only lasted about 15 minutes.

The flight attendants greeted all the passengers in the forward cabin and offered a pre-departure beverage. I asked for an additional bottle of water.

The door was closed ahead of the scheduled departure time and there was a five-minute taxi to the runway before the plane was up in the air.

Seat

I was assigned an aisle seat on Delta Airlines Redeye Vegas Minneapolis at the rear of the first-class cabin.

The aircraft was a 737-900 with modern interior and updated equipment.

The seat reclined and had a comfortable cushion.

A large video monitor was present on the back of the seat in front of me. The entertainment system was turned on after the safety video was played and just before the plane took off.

The monitor had a USB port. There were also A/C outlets in between the seat in front of me.

In Flight Experience

Once the Delta Airlines Redeye Vegas Minneapolis was up in the air, the aircraft got into a patch of turbulence from the rainstorm around Las Vegas.

The Captain left the seatbelt sign on for about 30 minutes into the flight.

The flight attendants circulated the first class cabin and offered a choice of drinks as well as a selection from the snack basket.

I originally was sleeping when they came around, however, shortly after I got up to use the facilities, the flight attendant approached me and offered a drink as well as a snack from the snack basket.

The snack basket offered bananas, chips, nuts, cookies, chocolates and a few other items.

I selected a banana and a chocolate bar.

The banana was fresh and sweet and it had a good taste.

The chocolate was pre-packaged and it was fresh as well.

I used my computer for a few minutes after I enjoyed the snack before taking a nap for the remainder of the flight.

Landing

The Delta Airlines Redeye Vegas Minneapolis flight was scheduled for two hours and 39 minutes.

The flight landed about five or ten minutes ahead of schedule.

There was a short taxi to the gate before the plane was parked.

The flight attendants thanked me as I departed the plane.

Overall

My Delta Airlines Redeye Vegas Minneapolis flight went by quickly. The flight attendants were attentive and it was nice that they offered a drink and snack even though I missed the initial offering. Most of the passengers were noted to sleep during the flight and I was able to sleep a bit as well.

I am not a fan of domestic redeye’s but they are often necessary to avoid additional hotel nights, etc. In this case, the latest afternoon flight on Delta to Minneapolis was 1 PM. The conference that I attended ended at 4 PM so the 1 PM flight was not an option.
