I began my journey to Shanghai early in the morning in Minneapolis at approximately 5:00 AM. My reservation had to be handled manually by an agent due to the fact that a visa is required for China. I waited in line for about five minutes before being assisted by an agent. The colleague processed the check in and issued boarding passes after about five minutes. They did not mention why there was a delay; however, I was on my way soon enough.

There was no waiting in line for TSA Pre check so I continued into the terminal. I had some time before my flight so I got a Starbucks and then went for a walk around the airport. Terminal 1 at Minneapolis is spread out so it allows for a good walk.

I proceeded to the gate at 6:15 AM. Boarding started promptly and I was on the aircraft within a few minutes. The aircraft was a 737 which is a nice change from the Super 80’s that are usually used on mainline American flights out of Minneapolis.

I received an upgrade at the window, approximately 100 hours before the flight. I was originally assigned a window; however, I changed it to an aisle as that is my present.

The boarding process was somewhat rushed. The flight attendants were focused on getting the bags in the bins and they did not greet the passengers in first during the boarding process. In addition, no pre-departure beverage was offered.

The boarding completed at 6:35 AM and the aircraft departed the gate on time. The taxi was relatively short and we were in the air in no time.

The flight attendants were delayed in coming through the cabin; however, approximately 40 minutes after take-off, beverages were offered.  The flight attendants were polite but they were not overly attentive. Once all the passengers had beverages, a snack basket was offered.

The flight from Minneapolis to Dallas is short, so only the snack basket is offered on the flights.

The snack basket options included fruit, muffin bars and fig bars.

I selected a cinnamon muffin bar and a fig bar. Both items were fresh in taste and they were sweet.

Once the basket was offered the flight attendants returned to the front of the cabin and were not noted to check in on guests for the remainder of the flight.

The flight was uneventful but it was a smooth flight. Upon arrival in Dallas, there was an average taxi before we pulled into a gate. The flight attendants thanked the guests as we departed.

Overall the flight was good. The flight attendants were not that attentive; however, it was an early morning flight and a lot of the passengers were sleeping.

Once I exited the plane I had approximately one hour and 30 minutes before the flight to Shanghai departed.
