Shanghai Trip Report – American Airlines – DFW – MSP

Date: September 13, 2015

Flight: American 1206

Aircraft: 737

Seat: 29E

The final leg of my Shanghai trip was a segment between Dallas Fort Worth and Minneapolis. I was originally scheduled on a later flight which would mean I would have about four hours in Dallas. After arriving from Shanghai I requested to stand by on an earlier flight departing in about 1.5 hours.

I arrived at the gate shortly before the scheduled boarding time and saw that my name was still listed on the standby list.

Within a few minutes, I saw that a check mark was listed by my name, which meant that I cleared onto the flight.

I approached the desk and I presented my standby card and was given the seat assignment 29E. A middle seat at the rear of the aircraft. It appeared that the flight was completely full and I was assigned one of the last available seats.

Boarding began about 15 minutes late due to a delayed inbound aircraft.

The boarding area was crowded as usual and I was able to board during the Priority Access lane.

As I entered the plane, first was completely full and economy was mostly empty. I proceeded to walk all the way to the back and I discovered that my row was the second to last row in the plane and I was assigned a middle seat.

The boarding process was efficient and all passengers were boarded within 25 minutes. It appeared that all the seats were assigned on the flight.

The plane departed the gate 15 minutes late and there was a minimal taxi time before the plane was in the air.

The flight was relatively smooth and NBC programming was shown on the overhead screens.

About 45 minutes into the flight, flight attendants entered the aisle with a cart and offered beverages.

When the flight attendants reached my seat, I requested a vodka cran-apple drink and asked what snacks were offered. The flight attendant said they had chips, cookies and a nut mixture. I requested the chips. Originally the flight attendant asked me for a credit card. As an American Executive Platinum member seated in economy, this is normally complimentary. I showed the flight attendant my boarding pass which listed Executive Platinum and he thanked me and said, “Cheers.”

The flight attendants served the beverages quickly before walking through the aisles to remove the used materials.

The flight was quick and we landed on time and had a short taxi to the gate. As I departed the plane, the pilots were standing near the door so I took the advice of another blogger and thanked them both for a safe and comfortable flight. The pilots thanked me and wished me a good day. The flight attendants also thanked me as I departed.

Overall it was a good flight and was awesome that I was able to get home a few hours early after a long travel day.

Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the Shanghai trip report. I would love to hear your comments.
