Date: January 23, 2016
Flight: AA 5919
From: Los Angeles – LAX
To: San Francisco – SFO
Aircraft: E175
Seat: 17C
I was originally scheduled to fly from Los Angeles to San Francisco at a flight in the late afternoon. I arrived at LAX around 10:00 AM so was facing a long layover.
I noticed a flight departing around 12:30 PM which was an American Eagle flight departing from the satellite terminal. I followed the signs to the bus area and waited for about three minutes before a bus arrived. I took the bus over to the satellite terminal. The bus ride lasted about five minutes. The bus was clean and it was nice being out on the tarmac and getting to see some of the airplanes up close.
Once I arrived at the satellite terminal, I approached the gate agent and asked if it would be possible to stand by or change to the earlier flight. The gate agent asked if I was an executive platinum or platinum member. I said that I was and she informed me that she could not confirm it at the time but she said the chances were good that I could get on the flight. She asked for my name and for my original scheduled flight. The gate agent used my name and she thanked me and said she would let me know if I was able to clear. She presented a standby boarding pass.
A few minutes before boarding began, I noticed that the app showed that my standby request cleared so I joined the line for the flight at the gate. When I reached the front of the line, I presented the standby card and the agent greeted me again and thanked me for my patience. She presented the new boarding pass and invited me to board. The gate agent wished me a pleasant day.
The aircraft was an E175 and it was accessed through an outdoor stairway/ramp.
Once I reached the top of the ramp, a flight attendant welcomed me and invited me to enter the plane.
I was assigned seat 17C which was an aisle seat in the rear section of the aircraft.
The seats were clean and they were comfortable. The aircraft features a 2-2 configuration in the economy cabin.
I located my seat and was able to store my backpack under the seat and still have a small amount of leg room.
A flight attendant greeted me during the boarding process and she thanked me for storing my bag under the seat.
The boarding process was efficient and several announcements were made prior to the door closing.
The Captain greeted the passengers and she informed everyone that they were expecting some turbulence but she would do her best to keep the flight smooth.
The flight attendants provided the safety demo before preparing the airplane for take off. There was a short taxi before we were up in the air.
The Captain made another announcement to ask the passengers to remain seated for a while as it was a bit of turbulence.
The flight attendants initially started a beverage service in the forward part of the cabin; however, they quickly stopped as the turbulence increased. They made an announcement to apologize about the service having to be cancelled.
The flight went by quickly and soon enough the Captain informed everyone that we would be landing shortly. The flight attendants prepared the cabin for landing.
Once we were on the ground there was a short taxi to the gate.
As I was departing the plane, the flight attendant thanked me and wished me a good day.
I entered the terminal and made my way to the city.
Overall the flight was quick and uneventful. I thought that the flight attendants were polite and they seemed sincere when they apologized for not being able to offer the beverage service.
