American Airlines ran an excellent sale fare between Minneapolis and Philadelphia for $89. A friend and I took advantage of the deal and booked a day trip flying in in the morning and returning in the evening.

Philadelphia Day Trip – American Philadelphia to Minneapolis
Date: Saturday, May 7, 2016
Flight: American 2446
From: Philadelphia – PHL
To: Minneapolis – MSP
Aircraft: 737
Seat: 4A
My seat was upgraded on the flight from Philadelphia to Minneapolis at approximately 100-hours before the flight.
The flight was scheduled to depart from the A terminal.
My friend and I returned to the airport via train and we located the Pre-Check line which only had three other guests waiting.
The security process took about five minutes in total.
At about 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time for our flight, we made our way to the gate area.
Boarding stated about 15 minutes later. The gate agents made several announcements that boarding would begin shortly.
Once boarding began, my friend and I approached the gate agent when first class was invited to board. The gate agent welcomed us and I informed her that my friend was traveling with me. She asked us to scan our boarding passes. After we did, she thanked us and invited us to board.
The aircraft was a 737 in the new American Livery.
A flight attendant greeted us at the door and welcomed us on the plane.
I located my seat which was 4B; however, I discovered that this flight only had five first class passengers, so I selected the window seat in 4A instead.
A flight attendant greeted me while I was at my seat and he offered a beverage. I requested water and he provided it within a minute or so.
The boarding was efficient; however, the flight departed about 10 minutes behind schedule.
After the door was closed, the flight attendants prepared the cabin for departure and they picked up my water glass.
The safety video was shown on the overhead screen.
There was a short taxi and after waiting briefly near the end of the runway, we were cleared for take-off.
I watched as the plane took off and went over the Philadelphia area. It was a nice view and the window was clean.
Once the flight reached a cruising altitude, the flight attendants prepared the cabin for service.
A flight attendant offered a hot towel.
The towel was hot and it was clean and it had a fresh scent.
A minute later, the flight attendant picked up the used towel, presented a nut mixture that was warmed as well as offered a beverage. I requested water. The flight attendant asked if I wanted ice. I declined and he thanked me.
The flight attendant provided the water a minute later.
The flight attendant asked if I was interested in dinner. I said yes and he offered a choice between shrimp and grits or a vegetable pasta. I ordered the shrimp dish and he thanked me.
The flight attendant served the meal a few minutes later. He also offered a choice between wheat or white rolls. I requested the wheat one.
The tray was setup neatly and it included a small salad, bread ad the shrimp and grit entree.
The shrimp and grits were served hot. The shrimp was cooked well and had a flavorful seasoning. About eight medium sized shrimp pieces were provided. The grits were served hot but they were dry and they lacked a good taste. The salad was served chilled. The salad consisted of lettuce and kale, cheese and peppers. The vegetables were fresh and they had a good taste. A creamy dressing was provided. The bread was served warm. The bread had a good taste and flavor.
After I finished my meal, the flight attendant offered to remove the tray. After I accepted, he asked if i needed anything else. When I declined, he thanked me and he asked me to enjoy the flight.
A short while later, the flight attendant offered a warmed chocolate chip cookie. I accepted and it presented it on a small plate.
The chocolate chip cookie was served warm. The chocolate was melted and the cookie was fresh, sweet and it had a good flavor.
After I finished the cookie, the flight attendant removed the used dish and he asked if i wanted another beverage.
The flight attendants showed NBC programming on the overhead screen. The video and audio quality was good. The programming was different from the one that was shown on the flight that morning.
Shortly before landing, the flight attendants prepared the cabin for landing.
I took a picture out the window as we were preparing to land. The sun was setting and the sky was beautiful with the wing as a backdrop.
The flight landed a few minutes behind schedule and there was a short taxi to the gate.
As I departed the plane, the flight attendant thanked me sincerely and he wished me a good day.
Summary –
I was surprised that the first class cabin was so empty on this flight. I felt that the flight attendant was attentive and he made me feel welcome. The food was good and the shrimp was excellent. The seat was comfortable and I enjoyed the flight. It was a nice end to the day trip to Philadelphia.
