Flying to New York on American

In August I booked a trip Flying to New York on American to attend a leadership conference within the city. In order to get there, I booked a ticket on American for about $250 flying to and from LaGuardia. The flights were operated by regional jet aircraft using the E175 aircraft.

Trip Details

Date: August 2, 2016

Flight: American 4672

From: Minneapolis – MSP

To: New York LaGuardia – LGA

Aircraft: E175

Seat: 2D

Airport Experience

I arrived at the airport about an hour and 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The check in area was wide open.

I did not need to check in, so I proceeded to the TSA Pre-Check line and found that there also was no waiting there.

I was able to walk from the curb to beyond security in under five minutes.

The flight was served by Republic Airlines and it departed from the E gates in the regular American boarding area.

When I arrived at the gate there was about five minutes before the scheduled boarding time.

The area had plenty of seats available. The plane was there and the last passengers from the earlier flight were departing the plane at that time.

The gate agents made announcements that boarding would begin in a few minutes.

Boarding

About 10 minutes later, boarding began. When I reached the agent she welcomed me and she asked me to scan my boarding pass. After I scanned it she used my name, thanked me and wished me a good flight.

A flight attendant greeted me at the door and she welcomed me on board.

My seat was 2D and it was a standard first class seat on the E175 aircraft. The great thing about the plane is the windows are large and there is plenty of overhead space for roller bags.

The seat was comfortable. The plane featured WiFi but no power outlets.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant offered a pre-departure beverage. I requested vodka cranberry with lime. The flight attendant said that they did not have any limes. I said it was acceptable without. She thanked me.

The flight attendant provided the drink a minute later. The drink was served chilled and it had a good alcohol level.

Boarding was efficient and it was complete within about 15 minutes. There were several open seats on the flight including four in the first class cabin.

The flight departed the gate on time and there was a short taxi before we took off.

In Flight Experience

Once in the air, the flight attendant greeted me and she offered a drink. I requested Coca-Cola. She thanked me and she also informed me that dinner was available and there was a chicken wrap or a beef noodle salad. I requested the salad. The flight attendant thanked me.

The flight attendant served the Coca-Cola in a glass with ice and a nut mixture a few minutes later.

The Coca-Cola was served chilled and it was fresh and had a good taste.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant provided the salad. The flight attendant from the economy cabin carried the tray up from the back and the first class flight attendant served it.

The salad was small and it had noodles on one side of the dish and lettuce, cucumbers and carrots on the other side. There were three thin beef slices. The salad was cold. The dinner was also served with crackers and carrot cake.

The salad was fresh and the noodles were fresh and it had a good taste. The beef was chewy and it lacked a good flavor. The bread sticks were pre-packaged and they were fresh. The carrot cake was fresh and it had a sweet taste. It was served with a strawberry. Overall the dinner was okay but nothing spectacular.

The flight attendant offered another beverage while I was having the meal. I declined and she thanked me.

Shortly after I finished the meal, the flight attendant removed the tray and she again offered another beverage. I declined at that time and she thanked me.

The flight had a small amount of turbulence in the middle of the flight and the Captain left the seatbelt sign on for most of the flight.

View from up in the air

The flight crossed over Michigan where the lakes were visible as well as over parts of Canada.

I took a few pictures along the way. It is always fun looking out the window.

As we approached New York, there were a lot of clouds  visible. Once we were closer to the ground, the sky was clear.

The flight landed ahead of schedule and there was a moderate taxi time.

After the plane arrived at the gate the flight attendant thanked me and she wished me a good day.

I exited the plane and made my way to the city for the conference.
