San Francisco Foodie Adventure

This article is the Introduction to my San Francisco Foodie Adventure. It provides an overview of my wife and my trip to San Francisco.

Booking

My wife and I booked our trip to San Francisco shortly after Alaska Air announced non-stop service from Minneapolis to San Francisco on an E175 aircraft.

Alaska had a sale running on the flight and we purchased it for around $190 per-person. This is a fantastic deal flying to the West Coast from Minneapolis.

For the hotel, we decided to stay at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square as I am a Hilton Diamond Member.

The hotel was available for cash stays in the range between $450-$550 during the stay. It was also available for 60,000 Hilton points per night.

I reached out to the Hilton San Francisco Union Square prior to the stay and was offered two nights at a reduced media rate of $150. We accepted the offer and booked a third night via 60,000 Hilton points.

Book your next trip: Agoda, Apple Vacations, Booking.com, Edreams, Expedia, Hilton, LivingSocial, Priceline, or TripAdvisor. Note: Elite benefits may be limited when not booking direct.

One of the best things about San Francisco is all the amazing restaurants that area available as well as the fresh seafood that you can get at the Wharf and China Town.

We were excited to check out several restaurants during our trip.

Activities

San Francisco is an awesome city with so much to do.

I started by checking out the Lonely Planet Guide to the city. The guide offers everything from tours and attractions to hotel and restaurant recommendations.

During the San Francisco Foodie Adventure trip, we planned a Sunset Sail as well as wanted to walk around the city to explore.

During our planning for the trip, we also visited San Francisco Travel where we learned a lot about the history of the city and found great resources for visitors. Check it out before your next trip.

We also planned on checking out some of the great attractions in the city. We got San Francisco CityPASS  which gave us access to several amazing attractions in the city.

You can use the San Francisco CityPASS to access five attractions in the city by the bay.

The attractions are:

  1. Cable Car and Muni Bus Pass – This will allow you to get all over the city as San Francisco has an awesome public transportation system plus getting to ride a cable car is one of the most popular things to do in the city.
  2. California Academy of Sciences – I love science museums because they are fun to explore and you learn great things about how the world works.
  3. Blue and Gold Fleet Cruise on the Bay – I love being out on the water. This tour gives you an awesome perspective of the city and bridges.
  4. Aquarium by the Bay – I love visiting to see the tropical fish and other creatures.
  5. Exploratorium OR de Young Museum – You get to pick which of these two you would enjoy most. The Exploratorium is a cool experience that blends science and art. The de Young Museum is a fantastic art museum.

San Francisco CityPASS costs $89 but it gives you over $150 in value. Even if you can only do four of the attractions over a week, you still get a lot of value out of the pass.

Many of the locations give express entry so you will not have to wait long to enter the attractions.

I’d highly recommend San Francisco CityPASS if you are in San Francisco for over three days, because you can spread out the attractions over your entire stay.
