Afternoon San Diego Sail with San Diego Sailing Tours

This article is Afternoon San Diego Sail. It is a highlight of my experience sailing with San Diego Sailing Tours for a two-hour sailing tour.

Afternoon San Diego Sail

The article is part of my San Diego Spring Adventure.

San Diego Sailing Tours

San Diego Sailing Tours offers daily sailing aboard their fleet of sailboats.

Afternoon San Diego Sail

The tours are hosted by informative captains who provide information on San Diego and the surrounding areas during the trip.

The tours go through the bay.

San Diego Sailing Tours also offers whale watch experiences as well as sunset sails around the bay.

You can buy tickets for about $79 per-person.

For this experience, I was a guest of San Diego Sailing Tours who generously provided a complimentary two-hour sail. I was connected with San Diego Sailing Tours via San Diego Tourism Authority. The views expressed in this review are my own.

Location

My San Diego Sailing Tour departed from a dock beyond the airport which was easily accessible by Lyft or UBER.

The location of departure is a marina that houses multiple companies.

Arrival

I arrived about 15 minutes before the scheduled time for my Afternoon San Diego Sail.

The captain greeted me when I arrived.

There was another family with four guests and me for this small group sail.

The captain pointed out the restrooms and allowed guests to use them prior to the sail.

Sailing Experience

The captain invited the guests for the Afternoon San Diego Sail to follow him to the marina.

Once we arrived at the sailboat, the captain provided a safety instruction before inviting guests to board the vessel.

Once on board, the captain offered one free beer or wine as well as complimentary water, soda and snacks.

The boat offered plenty of places to sit as well as it had a lower cabin.

The captain untied the boat and use the motor to depart the marina before opening up the sails once the boat was outside of the marina.

Once the sails were up, the Captain allowed guests to walk around the boat and take in the views.

I liked the views of the airplanes taking off like this American Airlines one.

The Captain piloted the boat using the sails south from the marina.

The boat drove alongside the military air base as well as the submarine base.

At the beginning of the sail, we approached the helicopter launching area and got to observe a few Blackhawk helicopters taking off above the boat.

The tour went south for about one hour, before the captain made a maneuver on the sails to turn the boat around to head back.

On the way back, the captain piloted the boat near the submarine area where there was a large submarine in the dry dock.

In addition, there were two submarines partially submerged under the water.

A large amphibious navy ship was noted along the route. The captain said it was refueling at that location.

I later saw the ship depart outside the bay via the North by the city.

The captain offered guests on the tour cheese and crackers that we passed in a tray during the trip.

I sampled one of the beers and was provided a Ballast Point Wahoo craft beef which is made in San Diego and is perfect for being out in the sun.

The captain offered me a second beer complimentary; however, I declined.

The captain continued the tour by maneuvering the boat near a platform where sea lions hung out along with birds.

The sea lions were playing in the sun during the visit.
