Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean has been making headlines on Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship.
I sailed on the Maiden Voyage and had a great time. You can read about the experience here.
In addition in a few months they will be launching Utopia of the Seas, the sixth Oasis Class Ship.
Utopia of the Seas is the first Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Oasis Class ship.
Utopia will offer short sailings to the Bahamas for a weekend of fun.
New Oasis Class
In a surprise press release this week, Royal Caribbean announced the seventh ship in the Oasis Class to be built in 2028.
The ship will be built by the French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
Royal Caribbean made the announcement in this press release.
The ship is the second Oasis class ship to use LNG which will be cleaner and more efficient that previous Oasis class ships.
The new ship will have all the wow’s of Royal Caribbean’s popular Oasis Class ships including the water show at the back of the ship and the Great Abyss.
Royal Caribbean plans more wows with each build.
Oasis Class
The first Oasis Class ship was Oasis of the Seas, which debuted in 2009. At the time, Oasis of the Seas was the world’s largest cruise ship and featured Central Park, an actual park at sea. That feature has continued through Oasis and Icon Class ships.
The other ships in the class added more improvements and items to wow guests. Those ships include Allure of the Seas (2010), Harmony of the Seas (2016), Symphony of the Seas (2018) and Wonder of the Seas (2022).
Utopia of the Seas is debuting in 2024 for weekend sailings to the Bahamas.
Typically short cruises are considered party cruises. The cruise lines use older ships on the sailings. Utopia of the Seas will change that.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique
The French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique will be the builder to complete the new Oasis Class ship.
The shipbuilder most recently built Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond but previously constructed Wonder of the Seas and many other Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruise ships.
The shipbuilder is excited to partner with Royal Caribbean on the new Oasis class build.
Oasis
Royal Caribbean Orders Seventh Oasis Class Ship sure is some exciting news. It will be interesting to follow the developments over the next few years.
Have you sailed on an Oasis Class ship? I sailed on Oasis of the Seas shortly after the ship debuted in 2009 but have not been on any of the other sister ships.
