Seoul Trip Report – Asiana Airlines – Beijing to Seoul

Date: October 4, 2015

Flight:  Asiana Airlines 334

From: Beijing (PEK)

To: Seoul Incheon (ICN)

Aircraft: 333

Seat: 11D

After clearing security and immigration in China, I proceeded to the gate at the boarding time. When I arrived there was a sign stating that the departure was delayed 20 minutes and that boarding would begin shortly.

I approached a gate agent to inquire if I needed a different boarding pass. The gate agent greeted me cordially and he took my American Airlines boarding pass and exchanged it for an Asiana one. I asked if there were any seats closer to the front of the airplane. The gate agent looked at the computer for a minute before saying that an aisle seat was available in row 11. The gate agent crossed out the assigned seat and wrote in 11D on the boarding pass and he presented it to me. The gate agent thanked me and wished me a good day.

Boarding began at new posted time. There were two lines, one for economy and one for business. Everyone lined up in the economy line so I joined the line and after waiting for about five minutes, I reached the gate agent who scanned my boarding pass and provided the stub and asked me to enjoy the flight.

Once I boarded the airplane, the flight attendants welcomed me and they asked to view my boarding pass. The flight attendant informed me that row to walk down and she thanked me.

The aircraft is an A330 that was setup in 2-4-2 configuration. My seat was 11D, which was an aisle seat in the middle section. The seat was the second row of economy cabin.

The seat was comfortable and it had adequate leg room. The aircraft featured AVOD with a good amount of content in multiple languages. The remote control was located in the armrest of the seat. The screen was not touch screen. The video quality was good overall. The audio quality had some static in the background.IMG_2290

The boarding was efficient and the door was closed prior to the new posted departure time. The flight attendants made several announcements in three languages before showing a safety video. The video also was in multiple languages.

The plane taxied for about 20 minutes before taking off.

Once in the air, the flight attendants made announcements regarding duty free purchases and they came around to each seat offering items from the catalog.

The flight attendants offered a meal and drink service about 20 minutes into the flight. The meal was preset on a tray and it consisted of beef with rice and vegetables, potato salad, fruit, bread and a small bottle of water. The flatware was actual silverware and it was not disposable like on other airlines. A coffee cup was included on the tray.

The flight attendants presented my meal and they offered a beverage. I requested a Coca-Cola. I was provided a small can along with a clear plastic cup.

The beef and rice dish was served hot. The beef was seasoned well and it had a tangy flavor. The beef was cooked with vegetables and it was placed next to sticky rice. The rice was fresh and it also had a good taste. The rice was covered with a leaf to keep the heat inside. The potato salad was served chilled. The potatoes were fresh and cut into small cubes. The potato salad had a good taste. The fruit salad was a mixture of melon and watermelon. The fruit was sweet and it had a good taste. The bread was fresh and it was served with butter. A Korean Hot Sauce tube was provided on the tray which enhanced the flavor of the beef.

The flight attendants offered coffee and tea after the meal was served as well as they were attentive in the cabin.

After I finished the meal, the flight attendants removed my tray and they thanked me.

The flight was short. There was a moderate amount of turbulence throughout the flight and the fasten seatbelt sign remained on for the duration of the flight.

Prior to landing, the flight attendants cleaned the cabin and they thanked guests for traveling.

The flight landed on time and after a few minute taxi, the aircraft arrived at the gate. The flight attendants thanked me as I departed the plane and they wished me a good day.

I proceeded to the immigration area.

Overall the flight was excellent. The flight attendants were friendly and polite and they provided cordial service. The meal was excellent and it was a surprise that there was real flatware. The meal reminded me of a domestic first class meal; only the quality was higher. It was a pleasant conclusion to a long day of travel.
