Weekend Mileage Run Trip Report – American Air – San Francisco to Los Angeles

Date: Monday. January 24, 2016

Flight: American Airlines 5995

From: San Francisco – SFO

To: Los Angeles – LAX

Aircraft: E175

Seat: 4A

I arrived at the airport about one hour and 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time. The check in area was not very busy at the time and there was no waiting in the TSA Pre-check line.

A few hours before the flight. I received an email listing that my seat was upgraded to first. I was assigned seat 4A which was a window seat on the 1 side of the 1-2 configured E175 aircraft which was operated by Compass.

After visiting the Admiral’s Club I proceeded to the gate area about 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. The gate area was not crowded and there were plenty of seats available. I overheard a gate agent saying that there were many open seats on the flight and that they accommodated all standby and upgrade requests.

The gate agent invited the first class cabin to board within two minutes of me arriving at the gate. When I reached the front of the line, the gate agent greeted me politely and she asked me to scan my boarding pass. After I scanned it she welcomed me on board and wished me a good flight.

I walked to the aircraft and was greeted by a friendly flight attendant who smiled and made eye contact with me and welcomed me on board.

I took my seat in 4A and found a comfortable seat with plenty of space under the seat to store my backpack. The recline functioned work and the seat was in good condition.

During the boarding process the flight attendant approached my seat and offered a choice of beverages. I requested water and she thanked me and said she would be back shortly.

Within a minute or two, the flight attendant returned and provided a plastic cup of water.

Boarding was efficient and as the gate agent mentioned it was a very light flight. I noticed one first class seat open as well as 30 or so in the economy cabin.

Prior to departing, the flight attendants provided a safety demo and they prepared the cabin for departure. The flight attendant returned to my seat to pick up the water cup. She thanked me when she picked it up.

There was a short taxi to the runway and we were airborne within a few minutes.

Once in the air, the Captain welcomed guests on board and provided flight information. The flight attendants also welcomed guests and made a few announcements.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant approached my seat and offered a beverage. I requested orange juice.

The orange juice was served a few minutes later with a cocktail napkin. The flight attendant thanked me.

A few minutes later, another flight attendant approached my seat with a snack basket and offered a selection. The basket had popcorn, trail mix and pretzels. I did not select anything for this flight.

The flight attendant was present in the aisle throughout the flight and she offered additional beverages as guests finished their first ones.

During the flight I took a few pictures from up in the air. One of them was an awesome sunrise picture.

The flight was quick and it lasted around 50 minutes. The cabin was prepared for landing. The flight attendants thanked all the passengers sincerely and they made a few announcements.

The flight landed ahead of schedule and was required to wait about 20 minutes for a gate. The Captain made an announcement and kept the guests updated on the progress waiting for the gate.

While we were waiting the airplane passed by several of American’s A321T aircraft that are used for transcons. The one I was hoping to travel on to JFK.

I followed the signs to the bus to the main terminal. After waiting a few minutes, a bus pulled up and guests were invited to board. The bus departed a few minutes later and made its way to the main terminal.

Upon arrival at the main terminal, the bus driver thanked the guests and invited them to have a good day.

Overall the flight was quick and enjoyable. It was nice that the flight attendants were so attentive during the flight. It was a pleasant surprise when the pre-departure beverage was offered. I enjoyed the flight and looked forward to another Eagle flight operated by Compass.
