Date: Monday, January 25, 2016
Flight: American Airlines
From: Phoenix – PHX
To: Minneapolis – MSP
Aircraft: A320
Seat: 2D
I received an upgrade on my flight from Phoenix to Minneapolis a few days before the departure.
The flight departed from the B gate area in Phoenix. The boarding area was crowded and there were very few seats available when I arrived about five minutes before the scheduled boarding time.
Boarding began on time and the gate agents made the usual announcements about the order of boarding and the request to check passengers bags.
When first class was invited to board, I joined the line and after a couple minutes, I reached the front of the line. The gate agent was polite and she welcomed me and invited me to scan my boarding pass. After I did she thanked me and she used my name and she invited me to board and wished me a good flight.
A friendly flight attendant greeted me with smiles, eye contact and a warm welcome when I reached the airplane.
I was assigned seat 2D which was an aisle seat in the three row, 2-2 configured first class cabin.
The first class seats were leather. The seat was comfortable. I felt that the leg room was somewhat limited. The seats had average recline and they did not have adjustable head rests. The leg room was limited in comparison to some of the other American Airlines aircraft. The seat did not have power ports and there was no entertainment system present.
The front bulk head wall was in the US Airways design; however, at the top there was the new American Logo.
Boarding was efficient and flight attendants circulated the cabin but they did not offer a pre-departure beverage for the flight.
Once boarding was complete the flight attendants made several announcements to welcome guests onboard the plane. In addition, the Captain made a brief welcome announcement.
The flight attendants provided a manual safety demonstration before preparing the cabin for departure.
There was a short taxi before the Captain asked the flight attendants to take their seats.
Once airborne the flight attendants greeted the passengers in the cabin and the Captain made a welcome announcement.
The first class flight attendant provided a hot towel before offering a selection of beverages. I requested a glass of water. The flight attendant thanked me and she asked if I wanted ice. I said yes and she provided it within a minute.
A few minutes later, a snack mix was offered as well as a black table cloth. I declined the snack mix but accepted the table cloth. The flight attendant thanked me.
A few minutes later, the flight attendant offered a choice between a chicken salad or an Alfredo pasta. She described how each dish was served before asking what I wanted to order. I requested the chicken salad. The flight attendant thanked me.
Within a few minutes, the flight attendant served the the meal at my seat followed by a choice between a regular or pretzel roll. I requested the regular and she provided it and asked me to enjoy the meal.
The chicken salad was served chilled. The salad was a mixture of lettuce with mandarin oranges with blue cheese and a raspberry balsamic dressing that was served the side. The chicken was crusted with pecans and it was cut into three small pieces. The chicken was fresh and the but crusting gave it a good flavor. The portion size was small. The roll was served warm and it was fresh and had a good taste. A package of butter was served with the meal. The butter was also fresh.
The flight attendants circulated the cabin and she kept my water glass full throughout the meal as well as well as the flight.
After I finished the meal, the flight attendant returned and she offered to remove the tray. I accepted and she thanked me and asked if I needed anything else. After I declined she thanked me.
About halfway through the flight the flight attendant returned to my seat and offered a hot chocolate chip cookie. She joked with me and the person next to me that it was her grandmothers’ recipe for the cookie. I declined one and she thanked me. She asked if I wanted any more water or another beverage. I declined and she thanked me.
The Captain made an announcement with arrival information and he thanked the passengers for flying American.
The flight attendants prepared the cabin for landing. The first class flight attendant personally thanked each passenger in the first class cabin before landing. She also offered a mint.
Once the aircraft landed, the flight attendants thanked guests for flying American and they wished them a good day.
There was a short taxi to the gate.
As I departed the plane, the lead flight attendant again thanked me sincerely and she wished me a good day.
It was a good flight. I felt that the flight attendants were attentive and they made me feel welcome. It was nice the flight attendant kept my glass full throughout the flight. In addition the meal had a good taste and flavor. It was a nice flight to complete my mileage run weekend trip.
