San Francisco and Wine Country Trip Report – Hotel Nikko San Francisco

San Francisco Trip Hotel Nikko San Francisco

My wife booked the Hotel Nikko San Francisco as part of her registration to a conference in the city. The hotel offered a rate of $285 per-night. She booked the reservation for three nights.

We arrived at the Hotel Nikko San Francisco by car on Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, the traffic around the hotel was heavy and it was difficult reaching the drive-up area due to some of the streets being closed for a St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Eventually, we located the drive-up area and found the area open and free of other cars. When I came to a complete stop, a doorman opened the door for my wife and me and he welcomed us to the hotel. The doorman offered to valet park the car. I said I would be dropping off the luggage and then would return the car to the airport. The colleague offered to get a bellman to assist with the luggage. I accepted and he thanked me.

A bellman approached us with a luggage cart and he greeted us and welcomed us to the hotel. The bellman removed the luggage from the car and he placed it on the luggage cart. The bellman inquired about our travel into the hotel and he made light conversation with us while he loaded the luggage.

Once he had all the luggage on the cart, he confirmed that he had everything. When I said yes, he thanked me and he asked for our last name. I provided it and the colleague wrote it on a luggage tag and he provided a claim check to me. The colleague informed me to give the ticket to the front desk and they will arrange for the luggage to be delivered to the room. The bellman offered additional assistance. After I declined, he thanked me and he wished us a good day.

My wife took the ticket with her and she went to check in. I departed the hotel to return the Silvercar at that time.

The lobby was open and modern in appearance. There was a large sitting area with couches, chairs and tables. The check in area was near the elevator bank. The lobby was clean and in good order.

There was a unique display setup with a cable car to the side of the reception desk area.

My wife approached the front desk and she was greeted promptly by a friendly colleague who welcomed her to the hotel. The colleague offered assistance. After she requested to check in, the colleague asked for her name and he requested her identification card. My wife provided it and the colleague thanked her. He confirmed the details of the reservation and he requested a credit card. My wife provided it and he processed it quickly and returned the card to her. The colleague offered two keys and my wife accepted. The colleague also offered luggage assistance. My wife accepted and he engaged a bellman for assistance. The colleague informed my wife what floor the room was located on and he told her she would need the key to access the elevator. The colleague welcomed her to the hotel and he offered additional assistance. After she declined, he wished her a good day.

The colleague at the desk had a bellman assist my wife and the bellman introduced himself and he welcomed her to the hotel. The bellman retrieved the luggage and he said he would meet my wife at the room.

My wife utilized the elevator to reach our room. Her key allowed for the elevator to go to the assigned floor.

We were assigned room 933, a Deluxe King Bed Room with a Partial City View.

The key worked correctly to open the door and the lock was secure.

The bellman arrived at the room within a few minutes. He greeted my wife using her name and he asked permission to enter the room. Once she accepted, he propped the door open and he brought all the luggage in the room and offered to set it up on a luggage rack. In addition, the bellman pointed out the major features of the room and he asked my wife if she had any questions. When she declined, he confirmed her satisfaction with the room before providing a business card with a number to text for service at the hotel. The colleague thanked her using her name and he wished her a good stay.

The room was large for the city and it featured a king size bed with two bedside tables, a work desk with a computer chair, dresser, television and seating area.

The bathroom featured a large bath tub as well as as separate shower. There was a large vanity with a decorative sink as well as the toilet.

The room was clean and it was decorated in neutral tones and was free of major defects.

A large closet was available with a safe.

The hotel offers free WiFi for basic services. We attempted to utilize that the first day; however, the speed for even downloading emails was too slow, so we upgraded to the premium plan for three days at a cost of $29. The WiFi was greatly improved with the purchase.

The television featured some HD channels. It adapted to the lighting level in the room, so when the lights in the room were off, the television dimmed significantly which made it difficult to see the channels.

The desk offered plenty of space to work on my laptop and the chair was comfortable.

The linens on the bed were soft and comfortable and the linens in the bathroom were thick and of excellent quality.

The bath amenities were branded Lather and they had a pleasant scent.

The water temperature in the shower was good; however, the temperature fluctuated from hot to cool during showers.

The room was quiet at night and we were able to sleep comfortably.

The room featured a large window which offered a partial view of the city. The main view was of the Hilton Hotel, but part of union square could also be seen from the window.

The housekeeping service throughout the stay was efficient and the colleagues never bothered us while we were in the room. Each day the room was returned to the original condition and the colleague refrained from handling our personal items except for tidying them and placing them on a cloth in the bathroom.

We did not utilize the hotel’s food or beverage services during the stay. I did; however, get coffee at the Starbucks which was attached to the hotel.

When we were ready to depart the hotel, we called for a bellman to assist with our luggage. While on the phone, the colleague offered to check us out over the phone. We accepted, and she confirmed that we stayed at the hotel for three nights and that the only charge outside of the room and taxes was for the premium WiFi for $29. The colleague inquired about our stay and when we said it was good she thanked us. The colleague also confirmed the method of payment. The colleague said she would email the receipt. She thanked us for staying at the hotel and she invited us to return in the future. She also said that the bellman would arrive within 10 minutes.

A bellman arrived about five minutes later and rang the bell and announced the department. When we opened the door, the bellman greeted us warmly and he asked permission to enter. The bellman inquired about the stay. He also asked if he could assist us with a taxi or car. We accepted the taxi as Uber was on surge pricing at the time. The bellman thanked us and he loaded our luggage on a cart and he accompanied us to the lower level. The bellman made light conversation with us while we were in the elevator. When we arrived on the lower level, he escorted us to a cab and he loaded the luggage in the taxi. The bellman offered additional assistance. After I declined, he thanked us, invited us to return and he wished us a good day.

Summary –

Overall we felt that the hotel was comfortable. The colleagues that were interacted with were polite and we felt welcome. It was a nice touch that they offered to check us out over the phone so we could avoid going to the desk. That was a nice touch that is not always offered at other hotels. We found the room to be clean and comfortable. It was a nice hotel in a good location near Union Square. We would return in the future.
