One of the great things about Vegas is the fact that parking is easy and traditionally you could either use valet or self parking for no charge. The casinos did this to make it easy to gamble.

Unfortunately, that may be changing as MGM, one of the largest hotel chains in Vegas announced that they will begin charging for both valet and self parking at most of the properties in Las Vegas.

MGM will begin charging for parking on June 6, 2016. The following properties are impacted:

  • Aria
  • Bellagio
  • Circus Circus
  • Delano
  • Excalibur
  • Luxor
  • Mandalay Bay
  • MGM Grand
  • Mirage
  • Monte Carlo
  • New York New York
  • Vdara

Self Parking Rates at most properties:

0-60 minutes – No Charge

1-4 hours – $7

4-24 hours – $10

Additional days – $10

Valet Parking Rates at most properties:

0-4 hours – $13

4-24 hours – $18

Additional days – $18

There will be a slight discount at Circus Circus, Excalibur, Luxor and Monte Carlo saving a few dollars.

Fortunately, MGM also announced that M Life Reward Members at certain tiers will continue to receive complimentary parking.

Complimentary Self Parking for M Life Status Members:

  • Pearl
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • NOIR

Complimentary Valet Parking for M Life Status Members:

  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • NOIR

If you have one of the above M Life Status, it will still be possible to park for free at the casinos.

In addition, Hyatt has a partnership with MGM that allows for matched status in M Life Rewards as follows:

  • Hyatt Gold Passport = M Life Sapphire
  • Hyatt Platinum Passport = M Life Gold
  • Hyatt Diamond Passport = M Life Platinum

It is possible to get automatic Hyatt Platinum Status by having the Hyatt Credit Card so that would grant you matched M Life Gold Status which gets both free valet and self parking options at MGM. It is a great card that offers two-free nights at any Hyatt property including Park Hyatt and the All Inclusive properties after spending $1,000 on the card in the first three months as well as a free night in a Category 1-4 property each year. You may be able to apply for the card via the Cardmatch tool.

Do you think the other casinos will follow MGM and add parking charges?
