Trip Details

Date: March 12, 2017

Flight: Delta 1076

From: Chicago – ORD

To: Minneapolis – MSP

Aircraft: 320

Seat: 4D

Upgrade

I received an upgrade to first class at the gate.

I was traveling on the itinerary as an Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75K, which allows for upgrades at the gate as well as selecting preferred seats on the plane. The access does not allow upgrades to Economy Comfort. Upgrades are not normal as you are on the bottom of the list.

This flight was early morning with a 6:25 AM departure on a Sunday so the load was light. The economy cabin had plenty of seats available.

Shortly before the flight the app indicated that I was upgraded and I noted on the seat map I was assigned one of the last first class seats. There may have been one additional seat open at the time of departure at the front of the cabin.

Travel Insurance

Do you have a travel insurance policy? These policies can be purchased for an individual trip or annually to cover all your travel. The policies offer medical coverage and transportation in the event of an emergency. It offers peace of mind and the pricing is competitive. I like to use Allianz for my travel insurance needs.

Boarding Area

I approached the boarding area at the time First Class boarding began.

A lot of people were standing in the gate area but there were plenty of seats available.

I joined a small line and the gate agent greeted me and asked me to scan my boarding pass. A printout was given with a new boarding pass when I scanned showing my seat in first class. The agent thanked me for my business and he wished me a good day.

The flight attendants welcomed me when I arrived at the plane.

Shortly after I was seated, the flight attendant greeted me and offered a pre-departure beverage. I requested orange juice. The flight attendant thanked me and provided it a minute or two later.

A pillow was available on the seat.

The plane was updated with new vent and light controls as well as WiFi entertainment.

In Flight Experience

Once the flight took off, we flew along Lake Michigan for a bit before turning west.

The take-off allowed for some nice shots of sunrise over the city.

The flight attendants prepared the cabin for service and I was greeted within a few minutes by a flight attendant who offered a beverage. I requested Ginger Ale.

The flight attendant provided the Ginger Ale and offered a can with it. I declined and he thanked me.

A few minutes later a snack basket was served which offered packaged breakfast snacks, fresh fruit and chips.

I selected a breakfast cookie and banana.

The breakfast cookie was fresh and sweet and it had a good oatmeal flavor with a hint of orange.

The flight attendants checked in with me and offered an additional beverage as well as another selection from the snack basket. I declined and they thanked me.

The flight was short and soon enough the flight attendants were preparing the cabin for landing.

Landing

The flight landed early and we made a short taxi to the gate. The flight attendants thanked the passengers as they departed the flight.

Overall

Overall it was a nice experience in first class on Delta. The flight attendants were attentive and I was surprised they offered second beverages as well as an additional selection from the snack basket. The aircraft was clean and comfortable and it was an enjoyable flight.

Surprised DL uses an A320 on a short route like this. Flights from LGA to DFW are relegated to an E-175, though in fairness the F experience was pretty good (review up soon).
