Booking

This hotel stay was paid for by my regular employer as it was the conference hotel for a meeting that I attended in Chicago. The nightly rate was $179.

Location

The hotel is located in the West Loop area of Chicago near Greek Town and the Willis Tower. The hotel was accessible by bus or from the train if you wanted to walk a bit.

There is a lot to do in Chicago, and I’d recommend consulting the Lonely Planet Guide to Chicago for tips and suggestions on what to do while you are in the city.

I arrived via Lyft from the airport. The ride was $30.

The hotel was undergoing renovations during my visit and the drive up area was under construction which made it difficult for the Lyft driver to drop me off.

The lobby also had signs up and well as black curtains sectioning off the area that was under construction.

Check In

Upon arrival, a bellman greeted me outside and invited me to the front desk for check in.

I approached the front desk and two agents were present and two other guests were being assisted. After waiting a few minutes, an agent invited me forward and she welcomed me to the hotel. The agent acknowledged my IHG membership and welcomed me to the hotel.

The agent processed the registration and she provided a WiFi access code and offered one or two keys. I requested one and she prepared the key and presented me the key card packet in my hand. The agent welcomed me to the hotel and offered additional assistance.

The check in process was complete within two minutes of arriving at the desk.

Lobby

The lobby was under renovations during the visit so there was limited seating available.

A water station was available in the afternoon.

In the morning the station was converted to a coffee station with three flavor pumps. The area was maintained neatly.

The elevator area was down the hall by the meeting room area. The elevator lobby was clean.

The elevators functioned after I swiped my guest room keycard to access the floor.

Room

I was assigned room 900 which was a corner room on the ninth floor of the hotel.

The key card opened the door without issue.

The room was a king size bed room with a full size desk, small seating area and balcony.

The bed was clean and the lines were free of defect. The linens were soft.

The bed had an adequate level of lights over the bed and at the desk.

The seating area was limited but the chair was comfortable.

The desk offered a regular computer chair and it was setup at a good height for working on a laptop. The desk offered two lights.

Across from the bed, there was a television and dressed with the coffee machine and safe hidden in one of the cabinets.

The room offered a limited city view from the balcony. The view was primarily overlooking the highway.

The balcony was large in size and it was a nice feature to the room.

Bathroom

The bathroom featured a shower with a low shower head. I had to duck in order to use it. The water temperature and pressure were good.

The bathroom vanity offered a limited amount of storage options for personal items.

The bathroom was otherwise clean.

The bathroom amenities had a pleasant scent and soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and body wash were available.

Stayover Experience

The room was quiet overall and I was able to get a good night’s sleep.

The housekeeping service was conducted while I was not in the room. The room was refreshed; although the floor was not vacuumed during the stay and debris remained near the door throughout the stay.

Dining

I did not utilize the hotels food and beverages outside of coffee in the morning. Pre-packaged muffins were also offered at that time.

Check Out

A folio was placed under the door overnight before I was scheduled to depart. The folio was accurate and no additional charges were noted.

I approached the front desk to check out and found one agent present and two other guests were waiting.

After about two minutes, the agent warmly welcomed me to the desk and offered assistance. After I requested to check out, she learned my name after I provided the room number.

The agent thanked me using my name, and inquired about the stay. The agent also recognized my IHG membership and offered additional assistance before thanking me and invited me back to the hotel.

The check-out process was efficient and it lasted 30 seconds.

The bellman greeted me outside the front entrance to the hotel when I was ready to depart.

Overall

My stay at the Crown Plaza Chicago West Loop hotel was good overall. The room was comfortable and I was able to relax throughout the stay. The desk was a nice option for getting work done during the stay. The staff members that I interacted with were polite. Overall it was a good stay.

I’ve stayed there a number of times but it’s been several years. Good to know they are doing some updating. You had a better view than most of the rooms offer but I’m not sure why your bathroom was so small. Other rooms that I’ve stayed in had a better bath setup but did feature translucent doors in some rooms which I don’t love. Nice review btw.
