The chef is made famous by the annual winter pop up dinner event on top of the frozen river at the Forks where celebrity chefs serve amazing meals in a cool outdoor environment directly on top of the ice.

We arrived at Deer + Almond and were greeted by the hostess.

The hostess escorted us to a table at the back of the restaurant and provided menus.

A minute or two later the server approached the table and welcomed us to Deer + Almond and provided the specials of the day and offered to take our drink orders.

I ordered an Aperol Spritz which is made with Prosecco and Aperol.

The bartender prepared the drinks at the bar and then the server delivered them to the table within five minutes of ordering.

The Aperol Spritz was presented neatly in a tall glass with the Aperol at the bottom, which made a nice contrast on the beverage.

The drink was light and refreshing and it was an awesome way to start the meal.

The server took our orders and I inquired about the black bean burger or one of the specials of the day. The server said the black bean burger was excellent.

I accepted her recommendation and ordered the black bean burger. The server offered fries, soup or salad for the side item. I requested a salad.

Entrée

The server at Deer + Almond Winnipeg Lunch Experience delivered our entrees about 20 minutes after we placed the order.

The entrees were presented to the correct guest and the server made sure that we had everything we needed before departing the table.

The black bean burger was presented on a decorative dish with the salad on one side in its own bowl and the burger on the other side.

The salad was a mixture of fresh and tender lettuce with onions, cucumbers and tomatoes which were tossed in a tangy and light dressing. The salad was excellent, and I enjoyed each bite.

The black bean burger was served hot on a sesame bun.

The patty for the black bean burger was excellent and it had a fresh bean and mushroom flavor.

The black bean burger was topped with mushrooms, avocado, smoked gouda cheese and pico de gallo.

The mushrooms and avocado were fresh, and they enhanced the flavor of the burger. The smoked gouda was melted perfectly, and it had an excellent taste. The pico added another flavor element.

The burger was excellent, and it was a great suggestion by the server.

The server checked back with us several times during the meal and she kept our water glasses full.

When we finished our entrees, she removed the used dishes and manicured the table.

Dessert

After all the entrees were cleared from the table at Deer + Almond Winnipeg Lunch Experience, the server presented dessert menus and she suggested coffee or tea.

I ordered a latte and the server thanked me.

The latte was served a few minutes later in a clear cup.

The latte was incredible as it had a bold espresso mixed with creamy milk with a bit of cinnamon on the top. I enjoyed every sip of it.

The server suggested we order a variety of desserts, so we could try them.

I ordered a unique one that was made with beet ice cream, chocolate, mushrooms and feta cheese.

The dessert was served about 10 minutes after ordering.

The beet ice cream was presented attractively in a decorative bowl. The beet ice cream was chilled and creamy, and it had a great beet flavor. The ice cream was served with blueberries and mushrooms in a tangy sauce. Chocolate was dusted over the top of the dish and the feta was on the side and it had a creamy taste.

I took a bite of everything in the dish together and found that all the flavors went well together, and the dish was simply incredible.

The other desserts were bold in flavor and were imaginative and they were presented attractively on their plates.Deer + Almond Winnipeg Lunch Experience
