Seoul Trip Report –
Over the next two weeks I am traveling to Seoul Korea for a mileage run vacation.
A few weeks ago I wrote about complicated itineraries. In that post, I discussed how my trip came about. To summarize, last year I booked a $317 deal from Seoul to Atlanta, which would require me to position to Seoul in order to pick it up. A few months ago, I purchased a series of tickets in order to do just that totaling about $900.
The reason for going on the trip is to finish re-qualifying for American Airlines Executive Platinum status for 2016 and as well as to visit Korea. This will be my first time visiting the country so I am excited to experience South Korea. Because it is primarily a mileage run, I will only have one night in the city for each weekend. Despite that, I hope to get to have a nice dinner as well as seeing some of the sites.
The trip is spread out over two weekends in order to minimize time away from work.
This trip includes a segment on the JAL 787 from San Diego to Tokyo so that will be interesting to experience the airplane on another airline. Unfortunately, the two segments between DFW and ICN are on American’s old 772 aircraft that has not been updated so it will lack good AVOD, power ports and internet. None the less, I am excited to get to review the aircraft and see how economy compares between American Airlines and JAL.
Due to the fact that the American is using the old 772 on the Seoul segments, I did not request upgrades on any of the long range segments. The domestic segments have the standard domestic upgrade requests in place.
I just learned that the NRT – ORD segment on American was changed from the 772 to the 788 so I am excited that that flight will have AVOD, power ports and USB.
I recently traveled on a complicated itinerary / Mileage Run Vacation to Seoul South Korea. I will be writing about my experience over the following posts:
