San Francisco and Wine Country Trip Report – Delta San Francisco to Minneapolis

Date: March 15, 2016

Flight: Delta 1151

From: San Francisco – SFO

To: Minneapolis – MSP

Aircraft: 320

Seats: 14D, 14E

We arrived at the airport about three hours prior to our flight via taxi.

The check in area had a low level of activity at the time.

We approached the baggage check line and waited for about two minutes before being assisted by a colleague. The colleague welcomed us to the desk and he asked for our boarding passes and identification cards. We provided them and he scanned them and printed the bag tags.

The colleague verified our identity before returning the identification cards to us. The colleague provided the bag tags and he informed us what gate that our flight was departing from. The colleague thanked us and he wished us a good day.

The check in process was complete within five minutes of arriving.

We joined the security line and found about six other guests waiting in the TSA Pre-Check line. After waiting for two or three minutes, we approached the agent. The agent verified our identity and invited us to enter the security screening area. There was a brief delay before we made our way through the security line.

Once we entered the terminal we found that it was small and there were only a few gates.

A Sky Club was present; however, we did not have day passes and the price at the door was $59 per-person.

We walked around for a few minutes before going to one of the restaurants and sitting at a table. We had a couple hours to wait so we relaxed and I did some work on my laptop.

At the boarding time, we made our way to the gate. The gate area was busy with activity and a lot of people were standing in the area in front of the gate when we arrived.

Boarding started on time.

We were assigned group 1 so we waited until that time before joining the line.

When we reached the gate agent, the colleague greeted us. The colleague asked us to scan our boarding passes and after we did, he thanked each of us using our name before welcoming us on the the airplane.

We joined the line in the jetway.

After waiting for about five minutes, we reached the aircraft and a flight attendant welcomed us on board.

We made our way to our seats which were located around the middle of the airplane.

The seats were standard economy seats on the 320.

The aircraft lacks head rests, AVOD, power ports, or USB ports. In addition, there is no overhead video. The aircraft offers Delta Studio via WiFi as well as GoGo Internet.

The seat was comfortable. There was a limited amount of leg room at the seat.

The boarding process continued and it was efficient as it completed about 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The door was closed and the cabin was prepared for take off including the flight attendants providing a safety demo.

There was a short taxi before the plane was up in the air.

There were a few announcements made before the flight attendants and Captain asked guests to relax and enjoy the flight.

The flight attendants provided a beverage service about 45 minutes after taking off.

When the flight attendants reached our row, one of them greeted us politely and offered a beverage as well as food for purchase.

I requested a Ginger Ale and water as well as peanuts.  I declined the for-purchase items. The flight attendant thanked me and she presented the drinks and snacks. The flight attendant thanked us.

The beverage was served chilled over ice. The Ginger Ale had a good taste. The peanuts were fresh and they had a good taste.

The flight attendants returned to the aisle after the service was completed to remove the used cups and other debris. A flight attendant thanked me when I returned the cups.

I utilized my iPad to access Delta Studio. The system was easy to use. There was a limited amount of content available on this airplane. Significantly less than on the 737-900 which was used on the flight to San Francisco.

There were both paid as well as complimentary options.

I selected one of the older movies, Dead Poets Society and watched that.

The app required an updated GoGo video player app, which took about 10 minutes to download and update.

Once the app was updated, the video loaded and the streaming had no buffering.

The quality of the video was good and the app was responsive to pausing when I needed to.

About an hour before landing, the flight attendants offered an additional beverage service. I requested a water at that time. The flight attendant provided it and she thanked me.

The time on the flight went by quickly and soon enough the flight attendants were preparing the cabin for landing.

The plane landed ahead of schedule and after a short taxi we reached the gate.

As we were departing the plane, the flight attendant thanked us and wished us a good day.

We proceeded to the baggage claim area.

After waiting for about 10 minutes, our luggage returned on the belt.

We proceeded to the shuttle area and made our way back to our car.

Summary –

Overall it was a good flight. The seat was comfortable and the flight attendants were polite. It was nice that Delta Studio was available; however, I was surprised at the limited selection compared to the previous flight.
