I arrived at Grand Hyatt Shanghai via taxi on Saturday. When I arrived, a door man opened the taxi door and welcomed me to the hotel. The door man offered luggage assistance. After I declined, he provided instructions for going to the 53 floor for the lobby to check in.
The hotel is located in an office building and the hotel occupies that floors above 50.
I entered the elevator and after a short ride the doors opened and I found myself on the lobby. There were two separate seating areas that offered a view of the city sky line. In addition, there was a restaurant located on one side of the lobby.
The reception desk was located in the center of the area. I approached the check in desk. When I arrived, there were four colleagues present at the desk and three other guests were waiting.
Some of the colleagues at the desk were working on the computer and they did not acknowledge me while I waited in line.
After about three minutes, one of the colleagues invited me to a desk on the side and she welcomed me and offered assistance. After I requested to check in, the colleague asked for my passport and credit card. I presented the items and she thanked me, used my name and welcomed me to the hotel.
The colleague informed me that I should check in on the Club Floor. She returned my passport and credit card and escorted me to the elevator bank. The colleague opened the door for me and she pushed the floor to access. The colleague wished me a good day.
I approached the Club Level and there were two colleagues present and two other guests were being assisted. After one of the guests was assisted, the colleague greeted me and offered assistance. I requested to check in. The colleague thanked me and she said it would be a minute or two. The colleague asked for my passport and credit card and she invited me to take a seat in the lounge where I could have a beverage while I wait.
The colleague escorted me to the lounge and she asked me to help myself to a table. She said she would be back with me shortly.
I entered the lounge and located a table. The lounge was clean; however, it was being transitioned from an afternoon tea service to an evening reception.
Most of the food stations were empty or they were being stocked.
A drink station was present with soda, water and juice; however, the still water bottle was empty and the juice containers were empty.
There was a coffee machine present; however, no coffee cups were available.

It was raining at the time; however, the windows offered great views of the city.
There was a delay in the colleague assisting me so I approached the food area and looked for a beverage. A colleague greeted me and offered to assist me. I requested orange juice and she said she would provide it shortly.
The colleague returned a minute later with a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice.
I took a seat again and used my laptop for a while.
After about 15 minutes, the colleague from the Club desk approached me and she apologized about the delay on assisting me.
The colleague returned my credit card and passport and she asked me to confirm the details on a registration card. After I said they were accurate she asked me to sign it. Summary –
Overall I felt the stay was good. I thought that the check in experience was a bit unusual. I was surprised that the colleague at the front desk sent me to the club lounge and then there was a long delay. I felt the colleagues were polite; however, it was not the best arrival experience. The room was clean and comfortable and I enjoyed stayed at the hotel. The club lounge was good overall and the colleagues there were friendly and polite.
