There are a lot of big stories going on this week in the week of cruise! With Utopia of the Seas going on sale and Icon of the seas completing sea trials Royal Caribbean is the big star this week in terms of media coverage!

Cruise News

I read a lot of articles and I will be posting a summary of some of the articles that I am reading as to make it easier for people to stay up to date on cruise news!

Some of the articles that caught my attention this week follow below!

Why Royal Caribbean is about to own the market for short cruises from Florida

Utopia of the Seas is the buzz word right now! She will be the latest Oasis Class ship debuting next year on short cruises from Florida to the Bahamas! The cruises went on sale this week and they are selling fast! The pricing is pretty high though right now so watch out if you want to experience all the buzz you may want to wait until later in 2024 for a sailing!

This article from the Points Guy webpage is about how Royal Caribbean is about to own the market by bringing their new Oasis Class ship to Nassau and Coco Cay for weekend party cruises and short four night sailings during the week!

Initial prices on the first four day exceeded $2,000 per-person for the four night cruise! That’s before adding gratuities, beverages and internet! But it will definitely be a fun time on an amazing cruise ship!

Do I Have to Get Dressed Up on a Cruise?

Fellow Boarding Area writer René de Lambert shares about whether or not you need to get dressed up on a cruise! When I first went on cruises people would dress up in tuxedos or suits and women would wear fancy dresses. A lot has changed since then! But on most sailings you will see people from very dressed up to very casual! That’s part of the reason that makes cruises fun!

Do you like to get dressed up? I tend to be a bit more on the casual side by forgoing a jacket for a nice dress shirt and pants or in some cases jeans! But every once in a while it is fun to dress up! By going the more casual route I can save space on packing, otherwise I might need to buy some new luggage.

Icon of the Seas Returns to Meyer Turku

The largest ship in the world Icon of the Seas which debuts in January 2024 completed the first sea trials this past week to a lot of news coverage! How exciting it is to see that the sea trials were successful!

I am booked on the Icon of the Seas in January 2024 and I am excited to check out this massive ship! I can you help you plan your next cruise! Contact me to get started at john@johnthewanderer.com.

Norwegian Cruise line is also in the news this week as they announced that Luis Fonsi will be the God Parent to Norwegian Viva! Norwegian Viva will be home porting in San Juan so having Luis as the God Parent is so cool!

I sailed on the sister ship to Viva this past year and had a good experience. I know they made some changes to the layout of the ship and made some cool additions so it will be exciting to see them when Norwegian Viva debuts later this year!
