Seoul Trip Report – American Airlines – Miami to Minneapolis

Date: September 27, 2015

Flight: American Airlines 1621

From: Miami (MIA)

To: Minneapolis (MSP)

Aircraft: 737

Seat: 5E

The last flight for the first trip to Seoul was a segment on American Airlines from Miami to Minneapolis. The flight departed from the D terminal in Miami and was operated by a 737.

Prior to going to the flight, I stopped at Café Versailles for a snack. I am a fan of Cubin food. When I am traveling through MIA, I try to stop in to Café Versailles for a Café Con Leche if it is the morning or some croquettes and empanadas if it is later in the day. Although the airport location is not as good as the one in Little Havana it is still a nice treat to eat there.IMG_2192

On this occasion, they did not disappoint me. I tried the ham and cheese croquettes and beef empanadas. They were both fresh and they had a good seasoning and flavor.IMG_2191

Once I had my Cuban food fix, I proceeded to the gate and waited for boarding. The gate area was moderately busy but plenty of seats were available.

Boarding began about 30 minutes before the flight. The gate agent greeted me when I arrived at the front of the line. She scanned my boarding pass, used my name and welcomed me on the flight.

The aircraft was a newer 737 with sky interior and the new vents; however, the exterior of the aircraft was not painted in the new American Livery.

The flight attendants welcomed me on the flight and I located my seat and stored my bag.

The boarding process was efficient; however, there was a brief pause in the process as a maintenance rep boarded the plane and was noted to remove one of the seat cushions and return a little later with a new one.

No pre-departure beverage was offered on this flight.

Boarding completed a few minutes late and the plane departed the gate about 10 minutes late. There was a short taxi before the flight took off.

The Captain made an announcement to welcome everyone on board and he provided some flight information before inviting everyone to have a good flight.

The flight attendants entered the cabin and greeted each of the guests in the first class cabin but they did not use the guests name. The flight attendants offered a beverage selection. I ordered a beer and the flight attendant thanked me.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant returned with a hot towel and later picked that up followed by serving beverages and nut mixture.IMG_2203

The nut mixture was slightly warm and the nuts included cashews, pecans and walnuts. The beer was served chilled with the can.

A few minutes later, the flight attendant approached each aisle carrying a tray where a choice between hummus and pita chips or cheese and crackers was offered. I selected the hummus and pita chips. The flight attendant thanked me and she provided them to me.IMG_2204

The pita chips were fresh and the hummus was served chilled. The hummus had a good garlic flavor and was creamy and it had a good taste.

The flight attendants were present in the cabin throughout the flight and they were noted to offer additional beverages and to check in with each passenger. One guest requested an additional snack and the flight attendant provided it for the guest.

During the flight a movie was shown on the overhead monitors. The movie was Pitch Perfect 2. The video quality was good. I did not listen to the audio as I was working on my laptop.

The flight was smooth and it was uneventful.

The flight attendants removed the used dishes and offered additional beverages before preparing the cabin for landing.

The Captain made another announcement to thank guests for traveling on the flight and to invite everyone to travel on American again in the future.

The flight landed on time and made a short taxi to the gate. As I departed the plane the flight attendants thanked me sincerely and wished me a good night.

Overall the flight was good. I was surprised that the meal service was changed to a snack rather than a full dinner. When I traveled on the flight in the past, a full dinner service was offered. The flight time was adjusted to 8:25 PM so it must now fall outside the regular dinner period despite the fact that it is 1,500 miles. The flight attendants were polite and they were attentive and they made me feel welcome.
