American Flagship Lounge Update –

American Flagship Lounge

This week American Airlines announced updates to the Flagship Lounge.

The AA Flagship Lounge is available for customers traveling in First class on international or transcontinental flights. In addition, the access is granted to Executive Platinum members when traveling on an international itinerary.

The flagship lounge offers more food including in some cases full meals as well as premium beverages which are complimentary. The food and beverages in these lounges has been self service and buffet style.

American currently operates Flagships lounges at JFK, LAX, LHR and ORD.

The announcement  made this week stated that they will be opening flagship lounges at DFW, MIA and PHL.

I’ve always been surprised that DFW did not offer a Flagship lounge so it will be an awesome update.

I’ve personally visited all of the existing Flagship lounges. In my opinion the one at JFK is currently the best one based on the food and beverages that are available there. The one at ORD is my least favorite as it is pretty small and has limited offerings.

American Airlines announced this week announced:

You’ll soon be able to enjoy a sit-down meal before boarding. Located inside the FlagshipSM Lounge, our dedicated fine-dining space is the first of its kind for any U.S. carrier.

Choose from a seasonal, multi-course menu that features fresh, regionally-inspired dishes designed by an Executive Chef. Your meal is always complimentary and will be paired with our finest wines and premium cocktails.

Beginning in early 2017, the FlagshipSM Dining experience will be available in select cities with 3-class service:

First Class customers on American’s 3-class international and transcontinental flights will have exclusive access to FlagshipSM Dining in 2017.

This will be a very nice option as it will set the lounge apart from other US Airline Lounges. Although it sounds like the service will only be offered to customers who are in First Class and it will not be applicable to Executive Platinum members.

I’ve experienced table side service at Cathay Pacific’s Lounge in Hong Kong.

Occasionally I have noticed menus in the LHR Flagship lounge where you can order breakfast, which is then prepared for you. I ordered it once; however, on subsequent visits, the food was limited to the buffet.

I guess it will be interesting to see how these changes are rolled out.

Hopefully the Flagship Lounge at DFW will open soon so I can check that out.

What are your thoughts on American’s Flagship Lounges?
