Link Starwood and Marriott Accounts
It’s now official, Marriott and Starwood have merged and you can Link Starwood and Marriott Accounts.
You are now able to link your accounts together and get status matched between Starwood and Marriott.
Three Programs
Currently Marriott is running all three rewards programs simultaneously so you can be a member of Ritz Carlton Rewards, Marriott Rewards or Starwood Preferred Guest.
Marriott has traditionally ran the Ritz-Carlton Program separately and they plan to continue that.
The Marriott Rewards and SPG program will continue to be separate as well for a while.
Benefits
It is now possible to get Marriott Elite Status if you are Starwood Elite member or Starwood Elite status if you are a Marriott Elite member.
I am currently a Starwood Platinum Preferred Guest. As soon as I linked my account, I am now Marriott Rewards Platinum as well which means if I stay at a Marriott Property this year, I will enjoy the top tier benefits.

Linking the Accounts
Linking the accounts is easy to do:
- Go to the webpage: Marriott Link Your Accounts
- Sign into your Marriott Rewards Account using your username and password
- Select your Starwood Account and login using your Starwood username and password
- Confirm the account is you and continue
It is as easy as that. Your accounts will be linked and your status will be matched between the programs.
After Linking
After linking you can transfer your points between the Starwood, Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Programs and you can enjoy elite benefits between the properties. Starwood points are valued higher than Marriott. You get 3 Marriott Points for every 1 Starwood point.
It has been a long time since I stayed at a Marriott property. It will be interesting to experience them again now that I have elite status.

I have status with both Marriott and SPG through their credit cards, but that’s it. It’s nice to see how well they’ve done with the merger for Elites. I was going to cancel my Amex SPG a couple of months ago, but now I’m glad that I kept it. I need to put some spend on this card so that I can transfer to Marriott and take advantage of the Flights + Hotels conversion. IMO, that’s one of the best uses for Marriott points.
