American Express Offers Discounts and Other Travel Awards through their Amex Offers promotions. These are limited time deals where you earn cash back, discounts or other benefits when you use your American Express card for everyday purchases.
The deals generally require you to opt in for the promotion before you make a purchase.
How it Works
Amex periodically puts together promotions with stores, hotels, airlines and other vendors and posts them on their webpage.
While you are logged into your Amex account, there is a tab listing Amex offers. When you select that, you get a list of offers that are currently available to you. When you find one you like, you click to save it to your card.
Once it is saved, you are able to take advantage of the promotion.
It’s that easy. You just have to remember to opt into the offer.
Other Amex Promotions
American Express frequently offers other special offers outside the Amex Offers promotions.
These offers are typically when the credit card is paired up with a hotel chain or other company and they offer bonus point earning opportunities.
Starwood 5,000 Bonus Point Offer
One current example is a promotion with Starwood where you get 5,000 bonus Starpoints if you pay for your stay using an American Express card.
For that promotions, you need to register for the promotion on the Starwood webpage and then book your stay and pay using your American Express card.
The deal can also be combined with other current Starwood promotions such as the current More For You Promotion where you earn 2x Starpoints on Weekday stays and 3x Starpoints on Weekend stays. Make sure you register for that promotion as well on the Starwood More For You Promotion Page .
Analysis
It is always good to stay up with current opportunities as they can lead to opportunities. In the case of the Starwood promotion, if you are already going to be staying at a hotel, this is an easy way to maximize your point earning.
Although it can be a bit annoying having to hunt down all the Amex offers, they can really lead to additional savings or other benefits so in my opinion it is worth the time.
